The user is directed to use certain vocalizations to move the object on the screen which is claimed to improve genioglossus strength, endurance and coordination. In a small randomized controlled study (n=16, adults, BMI ≤32, AHI ≤14), primary snorers with or without mild OSA, were randomized to perform 15 minutes daily of gamified upper airway exercises. Both groups objectively recorded their snoring sounds 2 nights a week using caliberated external microphones for the study duration. “At 8 weeks, the absolute change in snoring rate (> 60 dB/hour) was greater for the intervention group than the control group (−49.3±55.3 vs −6.23±23.2; p=0.037), a 22% and 5.6% reduction.” Additionally, bedpartners reported (user) decreased frequency and volume of snoring in the intervention group compared to controls (no snoring change). This small study had author COI. No published studies are available to support improvement in outcomes such as ESS, or OSA variables such as AHI or oxygen desaturation with this app.

Claimed Capabilities/Measurements

Users volunteer to be part of a research study exploring characteristics of responders to this free app which claims to improve snoring using myofunctional upper airway muscle exercises, and gamification to improve compliance.

Mechanisms

Sound

Sensors

Smartphone’s in-built microphone and its voice detection AI algorithm

Technical Considerations

Requires iOS 13.0 or later for the iOS version, user ID and usage data (product interaction are collected).

Peer-reviewed Studies

Citation: Grandner MA, Bromberg Z, Hadley A, et al.
