hello!
I'm Aalok / आलोक
pronounce:
/alok/,[AH-low-k]pronouns: he/him
I am a PhD student at Brown University training to be a cognitive scientist. My research interests include language cognition (how is it that we understand what we say to each other, and how does this work in the brain?), learning & memory (how do neural systems find good solutions to complex problems related to navigating the world?), and abstraction (how do intelligent systems construct internal models of their environment to make sense of the world?).
I am advised jointly by Ellie Pavlick and Michael J Frank.
Before grad school I worked at MIT Brain+Cognitive
Sciences at Ev Fedorenko's lab with a focus on
language and its processing using methods spanning fMRI, behavior, and
computational modeling.
Before then, I went to college at the University of Richmond.
Prior to college, I grew up in Pune, India.
In my free time I like to be outdoors {cycling, hiking, running, climbing} and leading trips doing those things. When indoors, you can typically find me repairing bikes.
