While we’re waiting for Rockstar Games to announce the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, it’s busy pushing updates to its existing blockbuster title. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is getting a free upgrade in a few days, bringing support for ray-traced global illumination, ambient occlusion, and a bunch of other features. The company confirmed the same via an official blog post and announced the upgrade will be available for free from 4th March. Head below for a close look at all the details to see how the game is being improved.

The newly announced update will land as a free upgrade for GTA V PC players early next month and it’ll bring the game in line with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. In addition to the improved graphics options and faster loading times, Grand Theft Auto V on PC will also gain support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3, and NVIDIA DLSS 3. These upgrades land alongside faster loading times using SSD and DirectStorage, DualSense controller support with adaptive triggers, enhanced audio through Dolby Atmos, and higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and framerates.

In addition to the main game, the GTA Online title will also have new additions like vehicles and performance upgrades, ambient animals, and more. The update for the online version of the game will also include kernel-based anti-cheat protections, proactive voice chat moderation, and a refreshed landing page. Rockstar’s GTA Online remains an ever-growing community, and the company is rewarding its players with special benefits when signing up for GTA+ Membership and an improved introductory flow for new players with $4m to spend in-game.

With new graphics settings and other performance upgrades, the Grand Theft Auto 5 now has a fresh set of requirements, and Rockstar Games demands at least an Intel Core i7-4770 or an AMD FX-9590 processor alongside either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 (4GB VRAM) or an AMD Radeon RX 6400 (4GB VRAM) to run the game smoothly. Support for the previous version of the game, however, will continue for players who aren’t able to meet the hardware requirements, but it’s worth noting that players still running the older version of GTA Online won’t be able to join games with those who have the latest version.

New Features on PC

  • Once upgraded, current PC players — along with anyone playing the game for the first time — will have access to a full suite of much-requested GTA Online upgrades previously only available on the latest consoles:
  • Enjoy a range of new vehicles and upgrades at Hao’s Special Works (HSW) that push automotive performance to new heights, and test your driving skills with Premium Test Rides, HSW Races, and HSW Time Trials.
  • Encounter Ambient Animals all across Southern San Andreas and take pictures of them to participate in the daily Wildlife Photography Challenge for new rewards.
  • PC players can sign up for GTA+ Membership to get special benefits in the upgraded version of GTA Online and beyond.
  • Track your criminal movements across all of GTA Online’s updates with the Career Progress feature as you build your empire.
  • Navigate a refreshed Landing Page as your starting destination to get straight into the action. Plus, take advantage of an improved introductory flow for newer players with a GTA$4,000,000 windfall to buy property, vehicles, and other items when you start off as an Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner, or Biker in the Career Builder.
