One UI 7 makes it a bit easier to use any app on Galaxy Z Flip’s cover display

One of the annoying limitations of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series is that only a few apps work on the cover display out of the box. One UI 7 isn’t changing that, but it is making it much more obvious for Galaxy Z Flip owners to find out how to run apps on the cover display.

Starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and continuing on with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung has only enabled a tiny number of apps to run on the outer display. That’s opposed to Motorola’s Razr series, which lets users run any app they wish on that outer screen without limitation.

To add more apps to the Flip’s display, users have to go through a relatively convoluted process that includes downloading Good Lock, installing and configuring a module, and more. Not only is it a bit annoying, but it’s not obvious either, as Samsung’s software never tells you this.

As spotted by Android Central, One UI 7 is streamlining this – but just a little bit.

One UI 7 adds a new button that tells users to download Good Lock and the MultiStar module in order to get additional apps on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (to Flip 5) cover display. This appears on the page where users can enable or disable apps that Samsung has formally approved.

This doesn’t solve hiccups in the actual usability, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

One UI 7 is now available in beta for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, with the stable rollout starting in late April. The Galaxy Z Flip 7, meanwhile, is set to offer a much larger cover display, but it’s unclear if further improvements will come to how apps work on that display.
