Waymo One coming next to Silicon Valley

Following Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin (via Uber), Waymo One is next coming to Silicon Valley.

Waymo One is specifically serving Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and parts of Sunnyvale. In total, it covers 27 square miles of Silicon Valley.

At the moment, “select Waymo One riders who live in the service area” will get access before a broader Silicon Valley expansion over time. The Google Self-Driving Car Project started in 2009 with testing in Mountain View.

  • “Opening our fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Silicon Valley marks a special milestone in our Bay Area journey. This is where Waymo began and where we’re headquartered. Now we’re bringing seamless rides, safer streets, and sustainable transportation to our local community.” — Waymo’s Chief Product Officer Saswat Panigrahi

Last month, Waymo launched in Austin via its Uber partnership. Instead of hailing via the Waymo One app, passengers just use Uber. You might get the autonomous vehicle when using Uber X, Uber Comfort, Uber Green or Uber Comfort Electric, while there’s the ability to opt-in to autonomous rides in Ride Preferences. It covers 37 square miles of Austin, including Hyde Park, Downtown, and Montopolis, with Uber managing the fleet of Waymo vehicles.

Waymo will also be accessible via Uber in Atlanta, while Miami is another “coming soon” city in 2026.

At the moment, Waymo is providing over 200,000 paid passenger trips and driving over 1 million miles each week.
