A Case Study: Kiyatec & 3DforScience:
Kiyatec, a biotechnology leader in ex vivo 3D cell culture, partnered with 3DforScience to communicate two groundbreaking platforms: Kiyatec Spheroids and Kiyatec Microtumors. These technologies allow researchers to model tumor behavior and drug responses more accurately, using patient-derived samples. Our challenge was to develop two high-quality animations that clearly visualize their methodology, innovation, and impact.
The animations were designed to mirror each other while conveying two unique yet complementary technologies:
Kiyatec Spheroids: Scaffold-free 3D cultures that form naturally from patient-derived tumor cells, used to test drug response within days.
Kiyatec Microtumors: Advanced tissue-engineered models grown in the 3DKUBE bioreactor, allowing complex, long-term drug evaluation in a perfused environment.
This parallel structure ensured both animations could stand alone or be viewed together as part of a broader communication strategy.

To explain Kiyatec’s platforms, we visualized tissue breakdown, single-cell isolation, spheroid formation, scaffold infusion, vascularization, and bioreactor perfusion. From immune cells and fibroblasts to drug application and flow cytometry, every frame reflected Kiyatec’s scientific rigor.
We developed two interconnected visual narratives with distinct pacing and structure. Storyboards, scientific illustrations, and 3D models were adapted in parallel to maintain consistency across both videos. Dynamic camera work and color-coded cues helped differentiate stages of the process and spotlight the versatility of Kiyatec’s technologies.
Rather than simply explaining the platforms, we immersed the viewer in the microenvironment of tumors. The animations mimic what researchers might observe in the lab: spheroids forming in microwells, cells interacting within scaffolds, and real-time reactions to drugs.
This immersive storytelling transforms technical procedures into memorable experiences, supporting educational, clinical, and commercial uses.

Each animation followed a production pipeline from research and scripting to 3D asset creation, review cycles, and final voiceover integration. Frequent check-ins with Kiyatec’s scientific team ensured alignment with their branding, messaging, and data integrity. The result was two synchronized animations that reflect the same high standards of science and storytelling.
The final animations supports scientific presentations, partner discussions and investor communications. By clearly illustrating how Kiyatec’s 3D platforms simulate patient-specific tumor environments, they reinforce the company’s position as a key innovator in personalized oncology.
“Kiyatec trusted us with the task of visualizing complexity without compromise. These animations help convey their scientific breakthroughs helping building trust, understanding and investment in their mission”
