All Dogs Go To Heaven
By Clorinda
His life, his sins had come and gone in six minutes.
The clock is always ticking inside his head. Tick tock, tick tock. He can't shut it out. Tick, tock. Tick tock. Tick. Tock. Tickk. Toocckk.
Clamped in the crocodile's mouth.
In death, what does it matter? If he was good, if he was bad? If he could command loyalty and inspire bravery, doesn't that make him good? … He smiles a little ruefully to himself. His logic is still not as good as Hoji; he can't turn black to white. He can turn white to black.
Hell, anyway, he's dead now.
16:54.
He had been alive for six minutes before his world erupted like a volcano of flame and blood and rage. Six minutes. Inexorable precious time. The clock always in her hand, the hands always ticking. The despair in her eyes. Such little faith in him.
Her eyes had burned him, castigated him for throwing her away, for rushing into battle to appease, indulge his lust for victory. She had known he wouldn't win. Not like that. Not as handicapped as that.
Was that why he had kissed her? Grasped her chin and tilted her mouth to meet his crushing lips? The eyes had fluttered closed, savouring the last contact with him. At least that kiss that meant so little to him and everything to her, had blotted out her fear and silent reproach.
Because the clock keeps ticking. Tick tock. Tick tock. Tick tick tock tock. Ticktockticktock. The sea rushes up from beneath his feet to swallow him. The crocodile's jaws are wide enough to engulf him whole.
