Roundtable Discussion Summary: Co-Creative Placekeeping – Artists & Civic Partnerships in Action

On June 21, 2025 we gathered for a roundtable discussion inspired by the new book Co-Creative Placekeeping in Los Angeles: Artists and Communities Working Together (Routledge, 2023). Featuring socially engaged artists, scholars, and civic partners, this conversation explored how artists collaborate with communities to address pressing issues such as displacement, affordable housing access, building belonging, and sustainable living for all neighbors. 

Two New Murals by Karla Diaz Uplift Voices of Santa Monica

Artist Karla Diaz has created two new murals that honor and uplift the diverse communities of Santa Monica. The murals, We Are Santa Monica at the Santa Monica Public Library (SMPL), and Youth Powerful Voices at the Virginia Avenue Park Teen Center are on display through Sunday, December 15, 2024.
